Ramsell & Kunowski, L.L.C. is opening the Veronica Idzik Memorial Paralegal Scholarship to one paralegal student per year in Illinois. Funds from this $1,000 award can be put toward your continuing college education, including class materials, tuition, and related expenses.

Veronica “Nika” Idzik (1969-2026) obtained her paralegal certificate from Elgin Community College where she excelled. For 38 years, she worked at Ramsell and Associates, where she started as a legal secretary then certified paralegal and then she became the office manager. She believed in the legal profession and always gave back with her time and effort.

Eligibility Requirements

You may apply to the Veronica Idzik Memorial Paralegal Scholarship if you meet all of the following requirements:

  • You must be enrolled in an accredited paralegal program in Illinois for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • You must have already completed at least one semester of the program with passing grades.
  • You must be at least 17 years old.
  • You must be a citizen of the United States.

Essay Prompt

To apply for the scholarship, students must answer the following prompt in essay format, in roughly 250 to 500 words:

Describe your career goals after obtaining your paralegal certificate. What practice area do you want to work in, and why?

Interested applicants must provide proof of having completed at least one semester of their paralegal program in the past 12 months, with passing grades for at least four classes. You can attach your (unofficial) transcript to fulfill this requirement.

Grading Rubric

Our judges will review all submitted essays based on how well they meet the following criteria:

  • Do you have a concrete career goal?
  • Do you provide specific details about your chosen practice area?
  • Is your essay clearly written and easy to understand?
